The Ministry of Education (Meduca) will invest $24.2 million in the construction of a new comprehensive education center in the district of La Chorrera, Panamá Oeste province, with a capacity for 2,500 students. According to projections by the company Cimenta Construcción, in charge of the project, the work must be completed and delivered by April 2027. For the year 2024, according to Meduca data, seven new schools needed to be built in the province of Panamá Oeste to cover the deficit of classrooms and school centers. The Minister of Education, Lucy Molinar, requested the construction company to expedite the project and use quality materials. This comprehensive education center will be built in the Puerto Caimito district and will be named "Puerto del Mar". According to the entity, for December 15, the start of construction work on another school in the El Arado district is scheduled, and another educational center is in the process of being approved in La Chorrera. Molinar stated that construction companies have been instructed to use quality materials, with the warning that Meduca will be demanding on this issue. She added that the land that has been acquired for the construction of schools has been through donations from individuals and companies. The contract with the institution states that the company Cimenta Construcción must deliver the work by April 2027, but executives of the firm indicated that they will try to reduce the waiting time and deliver a quality project. The new school center will have 76 classrooms, specialized laboratories, an administrative building, a multipurpose gym, outdoor sports areas, and security systems.
